More babies...yep seriously

In case you haven't noticed the trend, everyone around me is having babies. At work, church, even my close friends; I can't escape it! A friend, Jaime,  from church is having a little girl soon so some of the ladies threw her a shower after church and Jaime made out like a bandit with the gifts. It was great to see how generous everyone was! I gave her two of my signature burp cloths for the little one to destroy :)

We've had a lot of babies in my office, but we were fortunate enough to have 2 of those ladies be in my department; Baby Seals and Baby Brown.

It wasn't long before little Camden was here!! I was able to stop by the hospital to visit them just hours after the birth... it is such an incredible thing to hold something so small!!

Welcome Camden Brown!

Crystal napkins and a beakless duck

If you have never been to an auction, I highly recommend it. There is a fantastic antique auction just 15-20 minutes from me that runs every Monday night. I went a few years ago with my friend, so when my mother-in-law said she was looking for a cool vanity, I knew right where to point her. The auction posts pictures of most of the big pieces online throughout the week so you can keep an eye on anything you might want. Lo and behold, a perfect vanity came up so we knew we had to go this week!

Sharon got the vanity and I got a bedside table for Trav (finally, he's been putting his things on the floor for months!).

Around the back of the room they have tables with boxes filled with RANDOM things. They are sold off silent auction style starting at $5. I put my name down on 2 of them and ended up getting one for just $5! I didn't even realize what a steal this was until I got it home and started digging...vintage napkins, tablecloths, handkerchiefs, place mats and a whole slew of crystal!
The goods...

Rainbow butterfly napkins

Gingham and polka dots?? Yes please!

These will make great pockets on something...

Half the box was crystal! Ash trays, a decanter, jewelry holder, candlesticks...

I didn't realize until I went to pickup my winnings that along with the side table I bought, came these antique dummy ducks (random, I know)... Travis and I don't exactly decorate with a hunting lodge aesthetic, but there is something charming about them, I'm sure they will find a place to "land" :)

Fountain of youth

Travis and I met at youth group. Granted I was in high school and he was in middle school (ew, gross, don't worry we didn't even notice each other until college!) That youth group holds a very special place in our heart because we know it has the power to change young people. We still try to help out whenever we can and love going to youth events.

For the last several years, the youth have made a big to-do about Harry Potter. It started out with 2 boys dressing up as Harry and Hagrid and as they years went on, the costume fever started spreading. Over the last 2 years, I have gone as:

Professor Trelawney (with an enthusiastic Cedric)

Professor Umbridge (with Trelawney and Rita Skeeter)
This year for the grand finale (and midnight showing), I wanted to really go above and beyond and try something no one had tried yet...the Golden Snitch. I found some great gold lame (lah-may) fabric on sale and went to town!

For Travis' encore as Cedric Diggory, I found 2 shirts around the same size at Goodwill and sewed them together, printed off a Hufflepuff logo and we were good to go!

The original
My version...not too bad huh?

Me, Travis and his sister as the best darn Luna Lovegood ever. And yes, she made that hat

We love getting home at 3am only to have to get up 3 hours later for work!!
My friends are just so proud...

Gettin' organized

Nothing beats good ol' fashioned organization. A few weeks ago, my friend Erin helped me move my sewing room around to give it a lot more space and function. I was perusing the sales at Hobby Lobby recently and found the cutest bin to put small things in for 50% off! Score! Not to mention it screams "primitive" which I am all about right now...

Everything in its place!

RIP

Just after 4th of July, my husband was rear-ended. His car was totaled, but he was a-ok. Stiff neck for a few days, but no lasting damage. We've had quite a time working everything out with insurance, rentals, etc. so it's been a whirlwind this past month!! We still don't have a replacement over a month later, but if I could sew him a new car, I would!

Baby Seals

The office that I work at is filled with wonderful people. People of all ages and backgrounds with one common goal--have babies. Just kidding, but seriously...there is something in the water here! In 2011, we had 4 women expecting around the same time. Yes, FOUR. If you think this isn't a lot, compare it to the fact that only about 80 folks work here total...it's a lot! (See previous post) So naturally, we have a lot of baby showers which means a lot of chances for me to flex my sewing muscles!!

June was a crazy month. My best friend from work had just learned she was moving to Nashville for her husband's job and I knew we had to throw her a shower/going away party here before she left. We rallied together and gave her a carnival themed shower she will never for get!

Seals were everywhere (family's last name)

Tiny bunting between the cakes. Who knew I was also a baker?!?!

Can't wait to meet you Baby Seals!
