Totes Presh

Yea... I went there! So my long time friend sent me a link to something that she found on Pinterest to see if I could re-create it for her daughter. Its basically a "doll tote" (or at least that's the best name I could come up with for it!) or a flat, portable dollhouse. The website only had two pictures and was completely in French so I knew I had my work cut out for me! Her friend also requested two for her daughter so after making a pattern from the first one I trucked right through #2 and #3! I hope to add these to my shop as a staple one day... tedious to make but man are they cute!!

Here is the original:

And here is my version:

Not too shabby for having zero measurements and absolutely nothing but a picture to go on! I changed up how it connects at the top also. I'm not a big fan of velcro as it can lose its "stickability" over time and besides, I'm a sucker for vintage buttons :)

And here are the other two:

Pillows are kept put with a tiny piece of velcro (much better use than on the outside of the bag)

Slumber party!!!

See ya next time!
Thanks for looking! I had so much fun figuring these guys out. I already have so many ideas for different themes I can't wait to make more! This pattern was designed for Calico Critter sized dolls (see the bunny?) If you are interested in one for a little darling in your life, please email me! Tailoredbytorrey@gmail.com.

Happy Holidays y'all! :)

Back in business

I had the amazing opportunity to participate in a sale last weekend. Me and some ladies from work decided to put our craftiness to good use and sell a few of our handmade items... a few Facebook posts later, we were up to 13 vendors and over 50 people RSVP'd! The sale was hosted by the lovely Elise Ziegenbein (whose home looks like a Pinterest board...amazing!!) who also has an Etsy shop of her own. Here are a few pics from the sale, I am so excited to hopefully do this again in the spring!

My display!

Burp cloths up close and personal! Just loved those little birdies...
Just some of the gals hanging around...
So sad to see this one go...obsessed with stache's right now!

From mess to magic

I have recently developed a habit of stopping at thrift stores at every chance I get. By doing this, I have snagged some amazing finds for the home that my husband and I bought last September. Come to think of it, other than our main furniture and TV, just about everything in our house is second hand! Not only does this save a lot of money, but sometimes trash really can be an amazing treasure (more on my other treasures later).

I saw a picture years ago on the internet of a collage made of empty picture frames (below) and I knew that I needed to recreate the same thing.

In our first apartment in the Virginia Highlands neighborhood of Atlanta, I started a small version from frames I got at a yard sale:

When we moved to our townhouse, I just had to recreate the collage but in a slightly different way. I painted all of the frames 3 different colors (a cream, brown and taupe) to bring them all together since the frames were all WAY too different:

Since we bought our house in September of 2011, I've been collecting a few more frames but also some old cross stitches. I knew I wanted to make a collage in my entry way, but I needed the perfect table to go underneath it. I found an old metal table that used to have glass tops on both levels that were replaced with some dilapidated boards... for only $40! Perfect! I've been home sick for two days and started feeling better this evening so I seized the opportunity to knock this project out. Here is my finished product and I couldn't be happier about it!!

A page from an old dictionary

Love the old boards!

Feeling so accomplished right now! If you are wondering where my sewing posts have gone, I promise more things are coming from Tailored by Torrey... Spring has been ridiculously packed and I'm looking forward to things settling down in a few weeks so I can knock out some amazing projects!
